+ G.W. Mix, Executive Director
As the Program Director for United States Youth Lacrosse and the Newport Beach Surf Dawgs, Coach Mix brings more than 35 years of coaching experience to the organization. Throughout his career, he has coached at every level the sport has to offer. In addition to his role with USYL, Mix also served as the president and general manager of Major League Lacrosse's LA Riptide, a professional outdoor lacrosse team that played three seasons (2006, 2007, and 2008) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Under his direction, the expansion franchise made it to the MLL's playoff "Final Four" twice in its three seasons.
A former NCAA Collegiate National Coach of the Year, Mix had his college teams ranked consistently among the top twenty in the country, led teams to the NCAA tournament, and produced many Division I and Division III All-Americans. He was also part of the selection staff for Team USA's run for the gold in the 1994 World Championships. Some of Mix's former assistant coaches include Dave Pietramala (current head coach at Johns Hopkins) and All-Americans John McEvoy (Villanova), Bill Miller (Hobart and Team USA), Mike Pounds (Springfield), Peter Sheehan (UVA), and Tim O'Rourke (Navy).
As the Director of USYL, Mix has been actively involved in the development and management of several youth lacrosse programs and youth lacrosse leagues since 1994. He helped establish the Charlotte Youth Lacrosse Association, the Mecklenburg Youth Lacrosse League and Polar Bear Winter League in Charlotte, North Carolina. Most recently, he has been involved in the development of the youth and junior high school lacrosse programs in the Newport Beach, California area, including the Newport Beach Surf Dawgs.
For the past twenty years, Mix has directed a number of well-respected lacrosse camps across the country including the Lone Star and Lone Star Elite in Texas, Copperhead in North Carolina and Summer Skills Lacrosse Camp in Southern California.
In 1990, he established Champ Camp, the nation's premier high school lacrosse recruiting showcase. For the past 28 years, Champ Camp has remained one of the nation's most respected high school lacrosse events.
In addition to his involvement with the Surf Dawg program, Coach Mix has been involved with the Corona del Mar High School program since 2007.
The end of the 2017 season closed out Coach Mix's eighth year as Corona del Mar's head coach and his 11th year of involvement in the lacrosse program. Prior to becoming the program's head coach in the fall of 2009, he served as a coaching consultant with the Sea Kings.
During the past eight seasons, Coach Mix has led CDM to its first CIF Southern Section Championship (2012), two Southern Section Divisional Championships (2012 & 2016), two appearances in the CIF Southern Section Championship (2012 & 2016), five appearances in the Southern Section Divisional Championship game (2010, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017), and additional appearances in the CIF Southern Section Quarter-Finals in 2011 and 2014. His teams have compiled an overall record of 146-19, for an .885% winning percentage. Mix's 2012 Sea King team was the first in CIF lacrosse history to win the Southern Section championship with an undefeated record (24-0).
Prior to Coach Mix's arrival at CDM, the Sea Kings recorded a combined 15-13 record (.535) during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
Perhaps more importantly for the program, over the past eight years, Mix has been instrumental in assisting a number of CDM players in achieving their goal of playing collegiate lacrosse at its highest levels, including Noah Molnar '09 (Midfield/Lehigh), Ryan Mix '10 (Attack/Notre Dame), Blake Burkhart '10 (Face-Off Specialist/Loyola), Donald Dalton '11 (Defense/Drexel), Michael Keasey '12 (Midfield/Yale), Michael Ortlieb '12 (Goalie/Holy Cross), Jack Ortlieb '13 (Attack/Holy Cross), Hoyt Crance '15 (Goalie/Yale), Hugh Crance '15 (Defense/Notre Dame), Brett Greenlee '15 (Defense/Denver), Sherwin Gersten '15 (Midfield/Cleveland State), Jason Simaan '16 (Face-Off Specialist/Brown), Brennan Greenwald '17 (Defense/Drexel) and Jordan Pakzad '17 (Defense/Rutgers).
Coach Mix's career coaching record is 199-67 (.748% winning percentage).
In 2014, Mix was named Executive Director of the Pacific Coast Shootout, a major college lacrosse event that brings two of the top Division I programs to the West Coast each spring to play a regular-season game. Past participants include Cornell, Denver, Maryland, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Virginia.
Mix is a managing partner of The Cheetah Group, Inc., a brand development, marketing and management firm, specializing in the entertainment and sports industries.

+ Andy Chalupa, Director
Andy Chalupa is currently the Director of the Newport Beach Surf Dawg Program. In addition to serving as Director and actively coaching within the Surf Dawg program, Coach Chalupa is the head coach of the Corona del Mar JV lacrosse team and an assistant coach at the varsity level. He helped the 2012 Sea Kings win their first ever CIF Southern Section Title and a perfect record of 24-0.
Each summer, Andy coaches an elite group of high school players made up of former Surf Dawgs, in the oldest and most prestigious college recruiting camp in the country - Champ Camp in Baltimore, MD. In 2011, "Team America" was one of 72 teams that earned a berth in the Sweet 16 and finished the event with an overall record of 6-1. 2012 marked the first season that Corona del Mar High was able to bring two teams to Champ Camp: Team America and Team America II. TA and TA2 are invitational travel teams predominantly made up of the best players from Corona del Mar HS, supported by some of the best players from OC, SD and LA counties.
Coach Chalupa was an outstanding midfielder and football player at Hunterdon Central High School in New Jersey before going on to play collegiate lacrosse at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. While at Hunterdon Central, he was a 4-year varsity letterman and earned All-State and other honors his senior year.
During his time at Pfeiffer, he was a dominating face-off specialist and an excellent two-way midfielder (old school term meaning he played both offense and defense) before injury cut short his senior campaign. While active, he helped the Falcons win three consecutive Deep South Conference Championships from 1996-1998 and was a key contributor to their highest ranking (#5 in the nation).
Chalupa continued his playing career with the Charlotte Lacrosse Club (CLC), a highly competitive post-collegiate travel club team which won numerous tournaments up and down the East Coast before retiring from active play and moving to California in 2006. While in Charlotte he coached high school and youth lacrosse teams including the Charlotte Cyclones and Charlotte Cobras, 2 elite youth programs.

+ Tommy Linz, Coach
Tommy began coaching with the Surf Dawgs in 2014. He grew up in Cincinnati, OH and started playing Lacrosse in the second grade for the Cincinnati Blue Jays. The Blue Jays have developed into a huge youth program in his home town, acting as a feeder to many of the major High Schools throughout the Cincinnati area. He was a 4 yr Varsity attack player at St. Xavier High School where they made it to the Div 1 final four his Junior and Senior year. Today, St. Xavier is the #1 power house in Ohio, and Coach Linz likes to say that his class paved the way. Tommy had many offers to play college ball but in the end he decided to go to Miami of Ohio where he played attack for Miami Club for all 3 years.
Check this out! His first year in college he took off playing ball due to having the incredible opportunity to participate in a reality TV show called The AMAZING RACE, which he and his family actually ended up winning! In his free time, Coach Linz enjoys working out, camping, and being with friends.
